UAFS senior right-hander
Korbin Polly tossed eight shutout innings to win his fourth consecutive start on Friday night as the Lions beat the Newman Jets 9-3 in the second game of their Heartland Conference doubleheader at McCarthy Field in Wichita, Kan.
The Lions, however, had to settle for a split in the series-opening doubleheader after losing 3-1 to the Jets in the opening game.
UAFS (25-17, 12-8) will play for their sixth consecutive conference series win at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Live statistics and
live stream will be available.
It was the longest outing of the season for Polly, a former reliever turned starter who made his fifth start of the spring. Polly (4-0) allowed only two hits, walked one and struck out a season-high 10.
He left with a 9-0 lead after eight complete innings. Reliever

Brandan Warner was 2 for 4 and center fielder
Travis Young was 1 for 4.
The Lions had only five hits – all singles – against Jets starter Derek Schumann. The right-hander, who survived a rough six-batter, two-hit first inning surrendering only one run, allowed only nine base runners of which seven were left on base – four in scoring position.
Schumann (3-2) earned the complete-game win, walking one and striking out eight.
He gave up a leadoff single to Allen in the first inning and then hit both Easley and Love to load the bases. He gave up a single to right field to Young that drove in Allen.
Easley was thrown out at home trying to advance on the hit, and Schumann then retired Powell on a ground out and struck out left fielder
Tremarcus Koontz to end the inning.
UAFS didn't score again, leaving runners in scoring position in the fourth and sixth innings.
Lions starter
Javon Rigsby (5-6) suffered the complete-game loss, allowing three runs – two earned – on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts over seven innings. He allowed only one extra-base hit – a double by Jets right fielder Koby Millner.
Millner was 3 for 3 with a double and one RBI, designated hitter Jake Hanson was 1 for 3 with one RBI, Push was 2 for 4 and Jordan was 1 for 3 to lead the Jets, who left 10 runners on base and five in scoring position.
