Horn Leads Lady Lions At St. Mary's Rattler Invitational

Sophomore Mallery Horn shot a 3-over-par 75 to lead the UAFS women's golf team to a 12th-place finish in Tuesday's St. Mary's Rattler Invitational at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Weather played havoc on the tournament, which was originally scheduled for 36 holes over a two-day span beginning on Monday. Cold, freezing temperatures at night in the San Antonio area forced course officials to limit play to the hours between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day, resulting in the tournament being scaled back to 18 holes over a two-day period.

Dallas Baptist won the 15-team event, which featured five Heartland Conference teams. The Patriots shot a 16-over 304, edging runner-ups University of Indianapolis and West Texas A&M by only two strokes. Both teams shot an 18-over 306.

Texas A&M-Commerce was fourth (309), followed by St. Mary's (312), Arkansas Tech (314), St. Edward's (319), Tarleton State (327), Midwestern State (327), University of Texas-Tyler (329), Cameron (329), UAFS, Regis (334), University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (337) and Texas A&M International (359).

Horn finished tied for fourth overall in the 79-golfer field. Freshman Emily Martin, junior Tyler Morrison and junior Alejandra Rodriguez each finished tied for 45th with a 10-over 82. Freshman Sydnie Gamble finished tied for 61st with a 14-over 86, and sophomore Katelyn Parker finished tied for 72nd with an 18-over 90.

University of Indianapolis' Pilar Echeverria won the event, shooting a 2-under 70. She was the only golfer to shoot under par and edged runner-up Evelyn Arguelles of Dallas Baptist by three strokes.
