The UAFS women's tennis team lost a hard-fought nonconference match to the Oklahoma Baptist Bison 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Fort Smith Athletic Club to begin a three-match home stand.
UAFS (2-3) will begin Heartland Conference play at 1 p.m. on Friday against Dallas Baptist at Fort Smith Athletic Club and will play a nonconference match at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Missouri Western. The Lady Lions' match against the Harding Bison scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday at Searcy, Ark., has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. on March 7 at Searcy.
The Lady Lions tandem of Joanna Potet and Chloe Ruppanner beat Jacqueline Charvat and Tahlia Walsh at No. 3 doubles, but the Bison won the Nos. 1-2 doubles matches to earn the point.
Sophomore Samantha Wong earned the Lady Lions' only win, beating Ethne Dowling 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Chloe Ruppanner won her first set against Stefy Varon in the No. 6 singles match but was forced to retire because of illness.
