Lions To Start The Year Off Against Rattlers,Hilltoppers

UAFS men's basketball team resumes conference play in 2020 at two very familiar places as the Lions take on St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in San Antonio, Texas and on 9 St. Edward's at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Austin, TX.  UAFS is currently 5-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference play and will be looking to improve after the upcoming weekend. 

The Lions have fought many conference battles against Rattlers and Hilltoppers even before joining the Lone Star Conference. In the last ten matchups, the Lions are up 9-1 in the all-time series against the Rattlers. On the other hand, the all-time record between the Lions and the Hilltoppers is currently 8-6 in favor of the Lions. However, in the last ten matches the record is 5-5 and the Hilltoppers have won the most recent two matchups. Based on the D2SIDA, St. Edward's is ranked no. 13, while according to the NABC polls they are ranked no. 9 in the nation.

Heading into this weekend, the Lions are scoring 68 points per game, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three point line and 67.3 percent from the shooting line. The Lions are led in scoring by Brian Halums (23.1 ppg), Matthew Wilson (17.4 ppg) and Chris Rollins (8.1 ppg). UAFS is also dishing out 12.1 assists per game and are led by Charles Botchway (4 apg) and Wilson (2.7 apg). 

Defensively, the Lions are allowing their opponents 69.5 points per game, while shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from beyond the arc and 70.3 percent from the charity line. UAFS is grabbing 33.3 rebounds per game, led by Halums (7.5 rpg), Rollins (5.8rpg) and Matt Morgan (4.2 rpg). The Lions are also forcing 13.2 turnover per game while also recording 6.2 steals per game, led by Wilson (1.4 spg).
