After losing on the road against Oklahoma Christian past weekend (61-69) UAFS men's basketball team (5-4) is back on the road as the Lions take on Eastern New Mexico (1-7) and (3)West Texas A&M (10-1). The Lions will first match up against the Greyhounds at 8:30 p.m. (CST) on Thursday at Greyhound Arena in Portales N.M. Following that game, UAFS will travel to Canyon, Texas for their duel against the no. 3-nationally-ranked Buffaloes at 4 p.m. on Saturday at First United Center.
So far in the season, the Lions are scoring 71.2 points per game on 46.3 percent shooting from the field, 33.5 percent from beyond the arc and 67.7 percent from the free throw line. UAFS is led in scoring by
Brian Halums (23.1 ppg.),
Matthew Wilson (17.4 ppg.) and
Chris Rollins (9.7 ppg.). UAFS averages 13.7 assists per game led by
Charles Botchway (3.8 apg.) and Wilson (3.3 apg.).
On the other side of the court, the Lions allow 69.8 points per game while their opponents shoot 42.9 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent from the free throw line. As a team, the Lions grab 34.3 rebounds per game, led by Halums (7.5 rpg.), Rollins (6.1 rpg.) and
Matt Morgan (4.4 rpg.). UAFS forces 12.7 turnovers per game and records 5.8 steals per game, where the Lions are led by Wilson (1.3) and Halums (1.5).
UAFS men's basketball has never played against Eastern New Mexico before while they only met once against West Texas A&M and lost by the score of 86-94 in November, 2016. The Lions will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they continue conference competition.
