UAFS Women's Basketball team has won its season-opener in Conference Challenge hosted by St. Edward's in Austin, Texas as the Lady Lions defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 51-50. UAFS senior forward,
Tamera Gulley hit a go-ahead jumper in the paint and then blocked the game-winning attempt by Orediggers.
As a team, the Lady Lions have out-rebounded Orediggers by eight (41-33) and have recorded 12 assists on 18 made field goals. Both teams have turned the ball over quite a lot (24-22) while the Lady Lions recorded 8 steals. UAFS shot 36.7 percent (18-49) from the field, only 20.0 percent (5-25) from the three point line and 55.6 percent (10-18) from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions were led by Gulley who scored 13 points and grabed 13 rebounds while also adding two assists and two blocks.
Paige Elston added 11 points with three rebounds including the one that sealed the game after Gulley's block.
Ashanti Eden scored 10 points, and
Hannah Boyett added another six.
The Lady Lions are now 1-0 on the season and will be looking to sweep the Conference Challenge as they play Colorado Christian on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Recreation and Convocation Center in Austin, Texas.
