Lions Set For the Coca Cola Conference Challenge

First-year UAFS Men's Basketball coach Jim Boone, and his Lions will begin the regular season this weekend when they compete in Coca Cola Conference Challenge at Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Ark. 

UAFS will play Black Hills State at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in the opening game of the four-team, two-day event hosted by UAFS. Lions will play against Metro State on Sunday at 4 p.m. on Sunday. 

Live stats and live broadcast will be available throughout the entire weekend. 

UAFS Men's Basketball has previously played an exhibition game against Ouachita Baptist as a part of the Flood Relief efforts where the Lions won by 79-70. Newcomer junior guard from Farmington, Ark.,Matthew Willson led the Lions with 35 points while also adding 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Another exciting newcomer is a senior guard Brian Halums who transferred from Ole Miss. Halums added 24 points on 76.9 shooting percentage while also recording two assists. 

UAFS is returning six players who played important roles on the previous year's team. Most notable returners are senior guard Seth Hawley, who averaged 11.3 points and shot an impressive .401 percentage from beyond the arc, and senior forward Matt Morgan who averaged 5.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in the 2018-19 season.

The Lions are picked to finish 11th in the 2019-2020 Lone Star Conference competition according to the annual preseason poll by coaches, sports information directors and local media representatives.
