UAFS Men's basketball team is still undefeated (3-0) on the season and will host Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville during the conference-opening weekend homestand at Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Ark. The Lions will take on Dustdevils at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday followed by the match against Javelinas on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Offensively, the Lions have been led by a dynamic guard duo - Matthew Willson and
Brian Halums. Halums is averaging a double-double with 28.3 points and 10 rebounds while also adding 3.6 assists and two steals per game. Halums is shooting 51.9 percent from the field with 31.8 from the three point line and 100 percent from the free throw line (22-22). Willson, on the other hand, averages 19.7 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field, 42.9 percent from the three point line and 84.6 percent from the free throw line.
Chris Rollins is adding 12.3 points per game on overall 16/28 (57.1 percent) shooting from the field. As a team, UAFS is averaging 78 points per game while outscoring their opponents by 7.3 points per game. The Lions are shooting 47.1 percent from the field with 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 73.9 from the free throw line.
Defensively, the Lions are allowing their opponents 70.7 points per game while averaging 5.3 steals, 3.0 blocks, and 35 rebounds per game. On the other side, Lions are forcing 13.7 turnovers from their opponents on average. The Lions' opponents are averaging 42.5 percent shooting from the field, 26.5 percent from the three point line and 75.4 percent from the free throw line.
