The Stubblefield Center was dressed in pink for tonight's volleyball conference matchup between UAFS and Texas A&M Commerce. Crowd had a chance to honor breast cancer survivors while spreading awareness about this wicked disease. The UAFS Volleyball team has suffered its first conference loss of the season. After multiple hard fought sets, the Lady Lions have lost to Texas A&M-Commerce by the scores of 25-21, 28-30, 22-25, 26-28. The Lady Lions started the match by winning the first set, but the Lions of Texas A&M Commerce won the following three to edge the Lady Lions in the battle of LSC.
The two teams have only met once before and the Lady Lions have won that match in five sets back in October 2016. Thus, Texas A&M Commerce ties up the all-time series against the Lady Lions.
In a thrilling match, the Lady Lions won the first set but the Lions have fought right back and won the match in four sets. Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by
Lexie Johnston with 13 kills on 26 attempts and only one error resulting in .462 attacking percentage.
Anna Demmer (9 kills) and Courtney Crownonover (8 kills) also gave a great offensive boost to the Lady Lions. Defensively,
Lexy Lewis led the Lady Lions in digs (18) followed by
Amanda Van Wyk (11). As a team, the Lady Lions held the Lions to a .161 hitting percentage with 68 kills on 180 attempts and 39 errors. The Lady Lions have also recorded 13 team blocks.
