In the opening night of the volleyball weekend, the UAFS Lady Lions have swept UT Tyler in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-9. The Lady Lions 13-4, 7-0 remain undefeated in conference play and remain atop the LSC.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by
Rachel Williams with 16 kills on 30 attempts and only four errors. Senior setter
Amanda Van Wyk led the Lady Lions with 29 assists while also contributing with 4 kills and, defensively, with 9 digs. Overall on defense, the Lady Lions held UT Tyler to .036 hitting percentage with only 28 kills and 24 hitting errors on 112 attempts. Demmer (10), Van Wyk (9), and
Courtney Crownover (9) led the Lady Lions in digs.
This was the first ever conference matchup between the two teams and with this win the Lady Lions take the lead in all time series.
The Lady Lions' homestand continues with tomorrow's game against Texas A&M Commerce at 1 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. Tomorrow's game is also the Pink Out - Breast Cancer Awareness game. This event is sponsored by
Arvest Bank and
First Presbyterian Church. Both organizations will host tailgates with free hotdogs, chips and coke outside Stubblefield Center at noon. Admission is FREE and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match. First serve of the match will be executed by one of the breast cancer survivors from the local community. Donations will be accepted, too, with all donations benefiting More Than Pink event by
Susan G. Komen.
During the match, Coke and Taco Bell will host numerous giveaways. Tickets for all
