UAFS held off a strong rally by Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Lions volleyball team posted a hard-fought, five-set win in their final match of the Newman Jets Classic.
The Lady Lions won their first-ever meeting with the Lady Tigers 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13 at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
UAFS (7-5) snapped a two-match losing streak and finished the classic with a 1-2 record. The Lady Lions lost in three sets to No. 25 Missouri Western and No. 10 Central Missouri in their opening matches on Friday.
The Lady Lions will return home on Monday when they will host the No. 18 Central Oklahoma Bronchos at 6 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
UAFS hit at a 0.185 clip with 67 kills on 189 attempts with 32 errors. Senior middle hitter

Ouachita Baptist (10-3) collected 11 total team blocks. Freshman middle hitter Emily Low led the Lady Tigers with two solo blocks and four block assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Julianna Mack collected 16 of the Lady Tigers' 69 digs.
UAFS held Ouachita Baptist to just a 0.168 hitting percentage with 55 kills on 185 attempts with 24 errors. Junior outside hitter Katie Camp and junior middle hitter Adrianna Nolly had 16 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the Lady Tigers. Senior setter Stormi Leonard had a team-high 40 assists.
