No. 15 Bronchos Edge Lady Lions

UAFS encountered yet another nationally-ranked opponent on Monday night – its third in four days – and despite a strong effort, the Lady Lions couldn't quite pull off the upset against No. 15-ranked University of Central Oklahoma at the Stubblefield Center.

The Bronchos won the match 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with the Lady Lions.

It was the Lady Lions' fourth match in four days. UAFS was coming off a 1-2 performance this past weekend in the Newman Jets Classic in which they lost in three sets to No. 25 Missouri Western and No. 10 Central Missouri and beat Ouachita Bapist in five sets.

It also was the opening game of a brief, two-match home stand for UAFS. The Lady Lions, who played their fourth match in four days, will host NAIA member Wayland Baptist Pioneers at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Stubblefield Center.

Wayland Baptist (3-6), which competes in the Sooner Athletic Conference, just finished a five-match home stand in which the Pioneers went 3-2 with a four-set win against Mid-America Christian, three-set wins against Science and Arts of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Panhandle State an three-set losses to Texas Wesleyan and Southwestern Assemblies of God.

Central Oklahoma held UAFS to just a 0.129 hitting percentage with 32 kills on 132 attempts with 15 errors. Only junior outside hitter Anna Demmer collected double-digit kills with 10 kills. Freshman setter Taylor Stoops had 25 assists, while freshman defensive specialist Lexi Castillow served three of the Lady Lions' four aces.

The Bronchos, who won their 11th match in a row, had six total team blocks with sophomore outside hitter Haley Deschenes collecting two solo blocks. Junior defensive specialist Dominique Lipari had 22 of the Bronchos' 76 digs.

Central Oklahoma (12-2) compiled a 0.248 hitting percentage with 48 kills on 129 attempts with 16 errors. Senior outside hitter Taylor Bevis and Deschenes had 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Ericka Scholl and senior setter McKenzie Fyfe had 25 and 16 assists, respectively.

UAFS had only three total blocks with senior middle hitter Debra Rogers accounting for two solo blocks. Demmer posted a double-double with a team-high 11 digs, while Castillow had 10. The Lady Lions had 55 total digs.
