Lady Lions Hold Off Bulldogs In Five Sets

Four UAFS players collected double-digit kills to lead the Lady Lions volleyball team to a thrilling five-set win against the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs during Thursday's tri-match at the Noble Complex in Shawnee, Okla.

UAFS won the match 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9 to improve to 3-0 all-time against Southwestern Oklahoma State, which lost to host Oklahoma Baptist in the first match of the night.

The Lady Lions (9-6) hit at a 0.249 clip with 61 kills on 181 attempts with 16 errors. Senior middle hitter Debra Rogers had 18 kills, junior outside hitter Lauren Wood had 12 kills, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Williams had 11 kills and junior outside hitter Anna Demmer had 10 kills.

Freshman setter Taylor Stoops and sophomore right-side hitter Erin Black had 26 and 23 assists, respectively. Freshman defensive specialist Lexi Castillow served two of the Lady Lions' six aces.

Southwestern Oklahoma State (11-4) had five total team blocks. Junior middle hitter Jenny Tackett had a team-high three block assists. Junior defensive specialist Kaitlyn Dillon had a team-high with 29 digs and was one of five Bulldogs with double-digit digs.

UAFS held Southwestern Oklahoma State to a 0.204 hitting percentage with 69 kills on 211 attempts with 26 errors. The Lady Lions collected eight total team blocks. Rogers led the team with one solo block and seven block assists.

UAFS collected 105 digs with five players having double-digit digs. Castillow had 18 digs, and Black and Stoops topped off their double-doubles with 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Demmer topped off her double-double with 13 digs, while freshman libero Pilar Onstad had 10 digs.

Southwestern Oklahoma State's senior middle hitter Elizabeth McVicker had 21 kills to lead a quartet of Bulldogs with double-digit kills. Sophomore setter Allie Hoang had 55 assists, and senior setter Kodee Avery and senior defensive specialist Klemson Lancaster each served two of the Bulldogs' six aces.
