Big Second-Half Surge Sends Lady Lions To Big Win Against RiverHawks

Four players scored in double-figures for UAFS on Wednesday night at the Lady Lions used a strong second-half offensive performance to pull away for a convincing 75-62 win against the Northeastern State RiverHawks at the Stubblefield Center.

It was the seventh game in the all-time series between UAFS and Northeastern State, and the Lady Lions improved to 3-4 all-time against the RiverHawks.

More importantly, UAFS (2-6) posted a much-needed win, snapping a two-game losing streak. It also gave a big momentum boost to the Lady Lions, who began a four-game home stand.

UAFS will host Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m. on Saturday, No. 8 Drury at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Lady Lions shot 48 percent from the field (29 of 61) for the game, including a sizzling 60 percent (9 of 15) in the third quarter to turn a two-point lead into an eight-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Lions shot 36 percent from 3-point range (4 of 11) and 77 percent from the free-throw line.

Senior forward Ellie Lehne led the Lady Lions with 15 points, while junior forward Tamera Gulley and sophomore guard Dachelle Terry had 13 points apiece and senior guard Mariah Green had 11 points.

Senior guard Daijah Brown just missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds. UAFS out-rebounded Northeastern State by nine rebounds (40-31).

UAFS held Northeastern State (2-5) to just 38-percent shooting from the field (21 of 56), including a 33-percent effort from 3-point range (6 of 18). The RiverHawks shot 88 percent from the free-throw line (14 of 16).

Senior forward Cailyn Long led the RiverHawks with 16 points, while senior guard Bailee Eldred had 12 points. Eldred just missed a double-double, finishing with a team-high nine rebounds.
