Lions Earn Huge Road Win Against Aggies

UAFS picked up its second huge road win of the young basketball season on Tuesday night as the Lions beat the Cameron Aggies 83-75 at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla.

The Lions (4-4) snapped a two-game losing streak going into the start of Heartland Conference play later this week. UAFS will play Rogers State at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at the Expo Center in Claremore, Okla., in the conference opener and will host Lubbock Christian at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.

UAFS was just the second Heartland Conference team to beat Cameron this season. The Aggies lost to Lubbock Christian in the season opener but beat Dallas Baptist in their second game.

UAFS, which was coming off close home losses to Ouachita Baptist and No. 6 Southern Nazarene in this past weekend's UAFS Lions Thanksgiving Classic, shot a sizzling 53 percent from the field (31 of 58) – it was 12-of-29 shooting from 3-point range – and 62 percent from the free-throw line (8 of 13).

Junior guard Seth Hawley had 23 points and junior forward Matt Morgan had 17 points to lead an otherwise balanced UAFS scoring effort. Senior guard Chris Crawford and junior guard Tyler Williams each had four of the Lions' 16 assists.

Morgan and freshman post David Ekezie each had seven rebounds. Morgan also had four blocked shots.

UAFS, which led by as many as 11 points with 11 minutes left in the game, held Cameron to just 34-percent shooting from the field (24 of 70), which included a 29-percent shooting effort from 3-point range (6 of 21). The Aggies, however, shot 88 percent from the free-throw line (21 of 24).

Zachary Dumas had a team-high 20 points to lead the Aggies, while Chris Royal and Andrew Nguyen had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Royal had nine rebounds to lead the Aggies, who out-rebounded the Lions by eight rebounds (44-36).
