Senior guard
Mariah Green led a quartet players in scoring double-figures for the UAFS Lady Lions during their hard-fought 75-61 loss to the East Central Lady Tigers on Saturday in the LaQuinta Inn/Quality Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
UAFS (1-6) finished 0-2 in the two-day, four-team classic hosted by Emporia State at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan. UAFS lost to Emporia State 66-60 in Friday's opening round of the classic.
Green scored 15 points, while senior guard
Daijah Brown had 14, junior guard
Alexsis Brown 11 and senior forward
Sarah Elkins 10. Elkins and
Daijah Brown each had a team-high seven rebounds.
UAFS shot 40 percent from the field (23 of 58) – it was just 2-of-13 shooting from 3-point range – and shot just 50 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 26).
East Central (2-1) shot 40 percent from the field (19 of 48) – it was 5-of-15 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 89 percent from the free-throw line, sinking 32 of its 36 attempts. Guard Lakin Preisner led the Lady Tigers with 31 points – 14 points coming at the free-throw line – while guard Madison Rehl added 15 – nine coming at the free-throw line.
Preisner topped off her double-double with 10 rebounds.
UAFS will return to action on Wednesday night when the Lady Lions host the Northeastern State RiverHawks at 5:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. It will be the first of two games next week for the Lady Lions, who also will host Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
