It didn't take the UAFS Lady Lions volleyball team long to recover from its first Heartland Conference loss of the season.
Only three days after losing to the St. Mary's Rattlers in four sets, the Lady Lions got back to their winning ways on Tuesday night, sweeping the last-place Newman Jets at the Stubblefield Center.
UAFS won the match 25-10, 25-11, 25-15, handing Newman its 17
th-consecutive loss of the season.
It was the 20
th match in the all-time series between UAFS and Newman, and the Lady Lions improved to 18-2 all-time against the Jets. Newman's only wins against UAFS were a four-set win on Oct. 30, 2010, at the Stubblefield Center and a four-set win on Oct. 9, 2014, at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lady Lions (14-8, 4-1) remained tied for second place in the conference with the Rattlers (9-10, 3-1). Both trail the conference-leading Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps (13-6, 4-0) by one match.
It was the third match of a four-match home stand for the Lady Lions, who will host the Lady Chaps at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Stubblefield Center to finish the first round of conference play.
Newman (1-19, 0-5), whose lone win was in three sets against Midwestern State on Aug. 31, will finish the first round of conference play against Lubbock Christian a noon on Saturday at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
The Lady Lions held the Jets to a paltry 0.041 hitting percentage with only 22 kills on 98 attempts with 18 errors. Senior outside hitter Hailey Braddy led the jets with nine kills. Sophomore setter Reagen Roth had 14 assists, while freshman outside hitter Trinity Conley served Newman's only ace.

Newman had only two total blocks with four different Jets having one block assist. Conley led the team with 10 digs.
