Rachel Williams combined for 27 kills but that wasn't enough to propel the Lady Lions volleyball team past the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps.
Lubbock Christian kept its grip on first place in the Heartland Conference with a three-set win against UAFS. The Lady Chaps won the match 25-21, 25-20, 28-26 at the Stubblefield Center.
It was the 13th meeting in the all-time series between UAFS and Lubbock Christian. UAFS has lost the past matches but still leads the series 11-2.
UAFS (14-9, 4-2) finished the first round of conference play in third place, trailing Lubbock Christian (15-6, 5-0) by two matches and second-place St. Mary's (10-10, 5-1) by one match.
It was the final match of a four-match home stand for UAFS, which went 2-2 in that span with three-set wins against Texas A&M International and Newman, a four-set loss to St. Mary's and a three-set loss to Lubbock Christian.
UAFS will resume conference play with a match at 7 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary's and a match at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Texas A&M International.
The Lady Lions hit at a 0.196 clip with 44 kills on 143 attempts but committed 16 errors. Rogers, who was this week's Conference Offensive Player of the Week, had 14 kills, while hitting a solid 0.458. Williams finished with 13 kills, while hitting 0.211.
Sophomore setter
Erin Black had a team-high 28 assists.
Lubbock Christian had seven total team blocks. Junior middle hitter Morgan Schwarz led the Lady Chaps with one solo block and four block assists. Senior libero Kelsie French had a team-high 24 digs.
The Lady Chaps hit at a 0.261 clip with 48 kills on 138 attempts with 12 errors. Junior outside hitter Ashley Vanfleet had a team-high 12 kills, while senior outside hitter Lauren Zoller and sophomore right-side hitter Avery Moore had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Freshman setter Bradi Marshall had 43 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist Maddie DeGuire served three of the Lady Chaps' five aces.
