Madison Dickerson

University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Athletics has announced that Madison Dickerson, Director of Field Education and Assistant Professor of Social Work, has been appointed as Faculty Athletics Representative, serving as a liaison between the faculty and athletics department.

Dickerson's primary responsibilities will include serving as an academic monitor of academic progress for all student-athletes with a focus on administration, NCAA compliance and eligibility and student-athlete welfare.

"I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to represent the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith as its Faculty Athletics Representative," Dickerson said. "Sports have given me so much throughout my life, and I am eager to give back to student-athletes and the realm of athletics in this new capacity. My objective and passion lie in aiding our UAFS student-athletes in their journey towards becoming the most exceptional versions of themselves across all facets of their lives: academically, on the court, field, fairway, or trail, and on a personal level. Go Lions!"

Dickerson arrived at UAFS in 2021, following one year at Hark at Excellence Foundation and two years at Alma Healthcare and Rehabilitation, working with older adults in long term care, all populations in resource management, and collaboration with providers in the area.

No stranger to collegiate athletics and the River Valley, Dickerson was a four-year letter winner and two-time state champion in swimming at Alma High School before swimming four years for the University of Arkansas. She was on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's List all four years.

"I'm really excited to have Madison as a part of our team in the FAR position," UAFS Director of Athletics Curtis Janz said. "Her skill set in working with mental health will be key for our student-athletes as well as her ability to offer unique perspectives as a former student-athlete."

Dickerson graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2018 with degrees in Psychology and Social Work before earning her Masters in Social Work in 2019 and is a licensed certified social worker in the state of Arkansas.

Dickerson began her duties July 1.
