UA Fort Smith Athletics

Matt Waack begins his fifth season as full-time assistant coach after two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for Lady Lions coach Jane Sargent,but the history between the two goes back much farther than that.
The Fort Smith native first met Sargent 14 years ago while coaching club volleyball in Fort Smith’s Junior Olympic organization. Waack has been active in the club and high school coaching ranks.
The 2001 Southside High School grad attended Oklahoma State University and coached volleyball one season (2003-04) at Shawnee (Okla.) High School, where he led the Lady Wolves to the conference title and a berth in the regional tournament.
While coaching the Lady Wolves, Waack also was active in the club system, coaching the 14-and under and 18-and-under teams.
After returning to Fort Smith, Waack was active in the club system, coaching teams in the Fort Smith Junior Olympic program, and the UA Fort Smith volleyball program.
“I like coaching at the college level because I like the aggressiveness of play and the teams are so athletic,” Waack said. “I like working with Jane because I enjoy the way she works.”
He was a volleyball official, officiating games at the junior high, high school and college level.
Waack is married to Ashley, and he has a son,Jacob.
