Jonny Neeley begins his first season as an assistant coach.
Neeley began playing competitive volleyball for Hart High School in southern California, where he earned multiple All-Conference and team honors. After suffering a handful of injuries during his freshman year of college, he began focusing his interest on coaching.
Neeley has coached six years of competitive club and school volleyball in California, Utah, and Arkansas. While coaching in Utah, Neeley helped lead Pleasant Grove High School to two consecutive state finals, winning the championship in 2009. That same year, Pleasant Grove was ranked the 19th best high school volleyball team in the nation by MaxPreps.
After experiencing success at the high school level, Neeley was hired by Gold Medal Squared to be one of its camp clinicians where he traveled to various high schools across the county to run skills camps. It was during this time that Neeley gained an understanding and appreciation for statistical analysis and how it pertains to the game of volleyball.
Prior to joining the Lion’s coaching staff, Neeley spent three years coaching club and school volleyball in Russellville, Ark. He led his school team to their first-ever conference championship and an overall three-year record of 86-15.
At last count, Neeley has coached eight eventual NCAA Division I volleyball players, along with a handful of others who played Division II, III and junior college.
Neeley received his bachelor of science degree in coaching/teaching physical education from Brigham Young University in 2011.
