BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Tennis split its matches at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday, as the men picked up a 5-2 win while the women battled to a 4-3 setback.
The men breezed through doubles play, winning 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1 to take the 1-0 lead.
Eduardo Bribiesca won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 for a 2-0 lead, but Oklahoma Wesleyan won at Nos. 2 and 3 to even the match. UAFS then won the final three singles matches to earn the win.
At No. 4, Birk Arwedahl won 6-3, 7-5 before Rodrigo Hoppe tallied a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5. Kevin Praphan did not allow a point in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
For the women, Gracie Pereff and Antonietta Bocache earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, but OWU won at No. 1, 6-4, and then at No. 3 by default.
Bocache then won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and was joined by Arianna De Bernardo with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 and Rayssa Domingues with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2.
The men return to action Wednesday at University of the Ozarks while the women are off until March 27.
