PITTSBURG, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball saw its six-match win streak snapped Friday with a 3-1 defeat at Pittsburg State.
The Lions held the Gorillas to a negative attack percentage in the opening set to take a 25-16 win, but Pitt State then rattled off three straight set wins.
UAFS had an opportunity to take a 2-0 lead by leading 19-16 in the second set, but the Gorillas closed the set on a 9-2 run to even the match at one set apiece.
The Lions led early in set three, 6-4, but a 6-0 run for Pitt State allowed the Gorillas to take a 2-1 lead. Set four went back-and-forth until another 6-0 run by the Gorillas put them ahead, 20-15, before closing out the match. The Gorillas hit .368 and .342 in the final two sets, respectively.
Setter Scarlette Young had 20 assists for the Lions, while Trinity Funderburk added 11. Libero Abbey Jackson led UAFS with 16 digs with outside hitter Lydia Pitts tallying 15 digs.
Six players had five or more kills for the Lions, led by middle Crystal Smith with eight. Middle Jacia Hayes had five blocks for the Lions.
UAFS will host Central Missouri on October 3 at 6 p.m. in its home opener at the Stubblefield Center.
