Volleyball to return to action at Reddie-Tiger Invitational

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball will stay in state as it begins its second weekend of play, traveling to Arkadelphia for the Reddie-Tiger Invitational.

The Lions will face host Ouachita Baptist at 5 p.m. Thursday before taking on Mississippi College at 1 p.m. Friday. That evening the Lions will face Henderson State at 6 p.m. and wrap up the weekend at 10 a.m. Saturday against Auburn Montgomery. Both the Mississippi College and AUM matches will take place on the OBU campus.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS opened the season 3-1, collecting wins over Lane College, Union and Texas A&M-Kingsville with a defeat to Harding.

ALL-TOURNAMENT: Setter Scarlette Young and middle hitter Crystal Smith were each named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances last weekend.

AT THE NET: Smith ranks second in the MIAA and seventh national with 1.81 blocks per set. She totaled 29 blocks in the four matches, including 11 and 10 in the two five-set matches. The 11 blocks ties for the second most in a single match.

SERVE IT UP: Young tallied 16 aces last week and leads the MIAA with 1.00 aces per set.

ON THE ATTACK: Middle blocker Jacia Hayes ranks second in the MIAA with a .419 attack percentage.

SCOUTING OBU: The Tigers are 4-1 to start the season, with outside hitter Kailey Thedford averaging 3.34 kills per set. Setter Courtney Hanson dishes out 9.79 assists per set while libero Kylie Kisgen records 6.29 digs per set.

SCOUTING MC: The Choctaws are 1-3 on the year allowing opponents to hit .222. Setter Reese Regner is averaging 7.15 assists per set.

SCOUTING HSU: The Reddies are 1-3 this season as outside hitter Katilyn Steffes leads the attack with 3.07 kills per set. Libero Kaylon Partain is posting a 6.07 digs per set average.

SCOUTING AUM: The Warhawks dropped all three of their matches on opening weekend and are hitting just .065 as a team. No player is averaging more than 2.17 digs per set.

THE SERIES: The Lions are 2-0 versus OBU, HSU and AUM while this will be the first ever matchup against Mississippi College.
