FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Tennis took on Newman Thursday, where the men claimed a 4-1 victory while the women suffered a 6-1 setback.
In the men's match, the Lions were dominant at Nos. 1 & 3 doubles, winning both matches 6-0. Anis Ramchane and Eduardo Bribiesca teamed for the win at No. 1 while Rodrigo Hoppe and Kevin Praphan teamed for the win at No. 3.
Bribiesca then won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles as the Lions took a 2-0 advantage. Juan Rosello put the Lions ahead 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 win at No. 2. Killian Darneaux then closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4.
The Lions had a pair of matches go unfinished, as Praphan was tied 6-6 in set one at the time of the deciding point and Ramchane was on the verge of victory, leading 6-4, 4-6, 6-5 at No. 3.
For the women, Sofia Tominaga claimed the lone point for the Lions with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Antonietta Bocache took her match to three sets before being defeated, 3-6, 6-2, 3-6.
Both teams are back in action Friday against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
