Volleyball back at home for three straight matches

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball is in action at the Stubblefield Center for the second consecutive weekend as the Lions are slated to host Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.

The Lions and Griffons will tangle at 6 p.m. Friday in the Lions' annual Teal Match to raise awareness for ovarian cancer before the Lions take on the Bearcats at 1 p.m. Saturday.

UAFS will then face Arkansas-Monticello in its final nonconference match of the season at 6 p.m. on October 14. The team will be signing their 2025 schedule posters following the match.

All three matches will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions split their first two MIAA matches at home against Central Missouri and Missouri Southern before sweeping UAM in a road contest.

AT THE NET: UAFS recorded a season-high 15 blocks in the match against Central Missouri.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: UAFS ranks second in service aces at 1.85 per set and is third in the MIAA in blocks at 2.53 per set.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Middle Aspen Olson is third in the MIAA with a .419 hitting percentage while middle Jacia Hayes is 11th with a .328 percentage. Setter Scarlette Young leads the league with 39 total service aces for an average of 0.63 per set. Middle Crystal Smith is tied for first with 1.41 blocks per set.

RECORD WATCH: Young ranks seventh with 75 career aces. Smith is eighth on the single season record list with 27 solo blocks.

SCOUTING MW: The Griffons are 10-5, 2-2 MIAA while receiving votes in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll. The Griffons have three wins over ranked opponents this season and rank second in the MIAA in digs with 17.89 per set. Libero Anna Weberg leads the Griffs with 5.02 digs per set.

SCOUTING NW: The Bearcats are 6-7, 0-4 MIAA after the first two weeks of league play. NW allows the second fewest assists in the MIAA while being led offensively by right-side hitter Kasidy Mohwinkle, who averages 3.12 kills per set.

SCOUTING UAM: The Blossoms are 3-12 overall with each match being decided in three sets.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 2-2 against Missouri Western, 2-1 versus Northwest Missouri and 6-1 against Arkansas-Monticello.
