FORT SMITH, Ark. – The wait is finally over as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball will host Central Missouri in its home opener Friday at 6 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Following Friday's match, the Lions will host Missouri Southern State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Both matches will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com. Friday's match will also be broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 while Saturday's match will air on KOOL 104.7.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS opened MIAA play 1-1, defeating Newman before falling at Pittsburg State.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: The Lions are the least blocked team in the MIAA, allowing just 1.49 blocks per set. UAFS is second in service aces at 1.98 per set.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Middles Aspen Olson and Jacia Hayes rank third and fourth in the MIAA with hitting percentages of .409 and .388, respectively. Setter Scarlette Young leads the league with 31 total aces while middle Crystal Smith is first with 73 total blocks and second with 1.43 blocks per set.
SEASON BEST: Libero Abbey Jackson recorded a season-high 24 digs in the four-set win over Newman last week.
SCOUTING UCM: The Jennies are 9-3, 1-1 MIAA after a nonconference win on Tuesday. UCM has five players averaging over two kills per set with setter Kayla Baer averaging 10.0 assists per set.
SCOUTING MSSU: The Lions are 6-7, 0-2 MIAA and have lost their last six matches. MSSU ranks last in the MIAA in digs per set with 13.04 while led offensively by outside hitter Alana Moesch, who ranks fifth in the league with 3.39 kills per set.
THE SERIES: UAFS is 1-3 all-time against Central Missouri and 6-1 versus Missouri Southern.
