UAFS is transitioning into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association this fall. Over the coming weeks, we are highlighting our new conference rivals so you know who the Lions are up against! This is your crash course in everything MIAA!
Washburn IchabodsÂ
About the university (Short Bio):Â
Washburn University's first documented season was in 1891 when their football team went 1-4. It wasn't long before they had their first undefeated season in 1907 going 8-0 and declared Kansas Conference champions. Since then, they have won another seven conference championships in total. As for men's basketball, the Ichabods claim one national championship in 1925 after winning five straight games to claim the AAU title. They also won an NAIA title in 1987 after beating West Virginia State just two years before they would join the MIAA. The women's basketball team has the most recent title, winning a Division II title in 2000 with a record of 35-2, beating Seattle Pacific in the national championship.Â
The Lions are excited to play the Ichabods more often and hope to even out the all-time records this season. Â
