MIAA Member Spotlight: UCO

Welcome to the MIAA

UAFS is transitioning into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association this fall. Over the coming weeks, we are highlighting our new conference rivals so you know what the Lions are up against! This is your crash course to everything MIAA!

Central Oklahoma Bronchos

About the university (Short Bio): The University of Central Oklahoma made the MIAA its home back in 2012 after a decade stint in the Lone Star Conference. UCO currently has 14 varsity teams with five men's and nine women's sports, all of which compete in the MIAA except for their rowing team. The Bronchos are defined by their toughness, most notably in their football, wrestling, and softball teams. The football team brought home the national title in 1962 and 1982, whereas their wrestling team stouts an impressive 9 NACC Division II team titles (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2023, and 2024) and 8 NAIA Championships (1979, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1989). That amount of hardware speaks for itself when it comes to historic programs. UCO's softball team was created in 1975 and has since won 5 conference championships (3 in the LSC, and 2 in the MIAA), as well as one national championship in 2013 with College World Series appearances in 2012, 2013, and 2023.

As the Lions Join the MIAA we look forward to getting to face Central Oklahoma more regularly and hope to build a lasting rivalry with our neighbor to the west.
