UAFS is transitioning into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association this fall. Over the coming weeks, we are highlighting our new conference rivals so you know who the Lions are up against! This is your crash course in everything MIAA!
Rogers State Hillcats
About the university (Short Bio):Â
Another university that UAFS gets to rekindle a rivalry with is Rogers State. Rogers State has only had athletic programs since 2005, adding 10 athletic programs from 2005-10 and competing in the NAIA until 2013 when they moved up to NCAA Division II. The Hillcats joined the Heartland conference, of which both UAFS and RSU were members until the conference dissolved in 2019. The two would then split as RSU would become an associate member of the MIAA and eventually becoming a full member in 2022-2023.Â
In this time of their athletic existence, the Hillcats had their first team become nationally ranked in 2007 as their softball team would be ranked 22nd of all NAIA schools. Softball has continued its success over the years, as they brought the university their first national title, winning a Division II National Championship in 2022. In the late 2000's, RSU had their first team ranked number one in a national poll, as in 2009 their men's basketball team would take that honor.
The Lions are excited to continue building a long-standing rivalry with the Hillcats. Â
