Welcome to the MIAA

UAFS is transitioning into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association this fall. Over the coming weeks, we are highlighting our new conference rivals so you know who the Lions are up against! This is your crash course in everything MIAA!

Missouri Southern State Lions

About the university (Short Bio):

Just a quick drive up the hill, Missouri Southern calls Joplin, Missouri home. The Lions have been competing in athletics as a four-year institution since 1968 when they moved into the NAIA. A short four years later, the Lions would capture their first NAIA national title after the football team beat Northwestern (Iowa) 21-14. In 1989, Missouri Southern joined the MIAA and quickly rose to dominance in the conference in sports like baseball, volleyball, men's basketball, softball, and football. But overall, Missouri Southern's most dominant sport over their time in the MIAA has been their cross-country teams. Women's cross country won four consecutive MIAA titles in the early 2000s and the men had their fair share as well.

In more recent years, cross country has continued more of the same success and other sports have also had their fair share of eventful seasons. UAFS looks forward to getting to compete against Missouri Southern more frequently and hopes with the proximity between campuses to develop a more regional rival.
