PITTSBURG, Kan. – Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn posted a double-double of 12 kills and 16 digs while hitting .357 as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball swept Pittsburg State Saturday, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.
The Lions hit .275 for the match and held PSU to .102 and had a 10-2 advantage in blocks.
UAFS trailed 14-11 in the opening set before going on a 14-3 run to end the set. The Lions scored the final eight points of the set, breaking a 17-17 tie. Gunn and outside hitter Nyia Anderson each had two kills and a block during the run.
The Lions then hit .333 in set two as they broke a 9-9 tie with an 8-0 run to take a 17-9 lead. Middle blocker Jacia Hayes led the charge with three blocks and a kill.
In set three, a 6-0 run turned a 10-9 deficit into a 15-10 lead as Gunn added two more kills and a block. Leading 18-14, the Lions closed out the match with a 7-2 burst, ending the match with an ace by Anderson.
Anderson added nine kills, 11 digs and five blocks for the Lions with middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald totaling eight kills on a .444 attack percentage. Hayes collected five kills and had a team-high seven blocks.
Libero Macie Grams led the Lions with 21 digs while setters Trinity Funderburk and Scarlette Young each dished out 18 assists.
UAFS returns home for the final week of the regular season to host Emporia State and Washburn. First serve for the Lions and Hornets will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Stubblefield Center.
