FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball will embark on its final road trip of the regular season this week as the Lions travel to Newman and Pittsburg State.
The Jets and Lions will square off at 6 p.m. Friday before the Lions and Gorillas will do battle at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both matches will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: The Lions suffered a pair of home losses to Missouri Southern and Central Missouri.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: UAFS is second in the MIAA in both blocks per set (2.46) and aces per set (1.65).
STEPPING UP: Libero Calista Miller provided a team-high 22 digs against Central Missouri in her first extended action of the season.
RECORD WATCH: Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn ranks sixth with 878 career kills and seventh with 904 digs. Middle blocker Hannah Watkins ranks fourth with 263 career blocks.
SCOUTING NU: The Jets have yet to win a conference matchup at 3-23, 0-12 MIAA. Outside hitter Ozioma Ajekwu ranks ninth in the MIAA with a .302 attack percentage for a Jets team that ranks in the bottom half of the league in numerous offensive categories.
SCOUTING PSU: The Gorillas have posted a 7-4 home record and are 10-12, 5-7 MIAA. Pitt State allows the most digs per set in the MIAA at 18.97 per set as they rank 11th in kills per set at 11.91. Outside hitter Ivy Fink is fourth in the league in aces per set at 0.39.
THE SERIES: UAFS is 21-2 all-time against Newman and 0-3 versus Pitt State. UAFS defeated Newman at the Stubblefield Center earlier this season but was defeated by Pitt State.
