Lions take down Bulldogs in final seconds

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Guard Hannah Boyett drained the game-winning three in the corner with seven seconds left as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball defeated Truman State, 75-73, Wednesday afternoon.

Tied at 69-69 with 1:16 remaining, the teams traded the lead four times in the final minute. After Truman hit a pair of free throws, guard Anna Trusty connected on a triple at the top of the key to put the Lions ahead, 72-69 with 43 seconds on the clock.

The Bulldogs then answered with a layup to go back in front. After a miss and the ball out of bounds, guard Zyniah Thomas found Boyett in the corner off the in-bounds pass for the winning triple. The tying shot by the Bulldogs rimmed out as time expired.

The Lions once again got off to a slow start, trailing by seven after the first 10 minutes, but exploded in the second quarter, shooting 66.7 percent and outscoring the Bulldogs, 27-15, and taking a 42-38 lead into the locker room. UAFS had a 12-0 run spanning nearly four minutes in the quarter, with Trusty scoring eight of her 18 points during the run.
