FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball closed out the regular season Saturday, falling to Washburn in four sets, 16-25, 30-28, 18-25, 22-25.
Outside hitters Caelyn Gunn and Nyia Anderson tallied 16 and 15 kills, respectively, to lead the Lions offensively. Anderson hit .318 for the match. Middle blockers Kaelyn McDonald and Hannah Watkins had nine and eight kills, respectively, with Watkins hitting .400.
After the Lions were held to just .027 hitting in the first set, the Lions and Ichabods went back-and-forth in set two. Washburn led, 18-13, before the Lions went on a 4-0 run to get back within one, getting a pair of kills from Anderson.
Washburn then went up, 24-23, but the Lions fended off set point, finally breaking through at 30-28 with two kills from Gunn.
The Washburn attack was too much to overcome in the final two sets, as the Ichabods hit .552 in set three without an error then hit .366 with 21 kills in set four.
Setter Scarlette Young dished out 26 assists while setter Trinity Funderburk tallied 19. Libero Brooke Rifkin recorded a team-high 18 digs, with Gunn and Anderson notching double-doubles with 15 and 13 digs.
Watkins led the Lions with four blocks while McDonald added three.
