Volleyball hosts Emporia State, Washburn for final homestand

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball will wrap up its 2024 regular season this week by hosting Emporia State and Washburn at the Stubblefield Center.

The Lions and Hornets will square off at 6 p.m. Friday with the Lions and Ichabods then taking the court at noon on Saturday. Senior Day will take place prior to Saturday's match.

Both matches will be streamed on the MIAA Network with Friday's match broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 and Saturday's contest on KFPW-AM 1230. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions earned a pair of road victories, defeating Newman in four sets before sweeping Pittsburg State.

AT THE NET: Saturday's matchup with Washburn will feature the top two blocking teams in the MIAA, as the Lions and Ichabods are tied atop the league with 2.49 blocks per set.

ON THE ATTACK: Middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald hit .459 last week with 17 kills and is fifth in the MIAA with a .326 attack percentage. She is hitting .330 in her last 10 matches with 82 kills.

RECORD WATCH: Middle blocker Hannah Watkins ranks fourth with 269 total blocks while outside hitter Caelyn Gunn is sixth with 896 kills and sixth with 930 digs.

SCOUTING ESU: The Hornets are 16-8, 8-6 MIAA and sit fifth in the conference standings. ESU is the least dug team in the MIAA at just 15.4 per set and is third in the league in aces at 1.51 per set. Outside hitter Weronika Wrzesinska is second in the league with 3.58 kills per set.

SCOUTING WU: The Ichabods are 19-5, 10-4 MIAA and have won six of their last seven matches. Washburn is third in the league in kills, assists and hitting percentage, led by outside hitter Jalyn Stevenston at 2.95 kills per set. Middle Alex Dvorak is second in the league in hitting percentage at .376.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 2-1 all-time against Emporia State and 0-2 versus Washburn.
