Trusty tallies double-double as Lions defeat Arkansas Tech in overtime

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Guard Anna Trusty tallied a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball earned a come-from-behind, 88-85, win in overtime Wednesday at Arkansas Tech.

UAFS trailed by 11 early in the fourth quarter but used a 15-4 run over four minutes to tie the game at 69-69 with 4:49 remaining. Trusty and guard Hannah Boyett each scored six points during the rally.

After Tech regained the lead at 72-69, Boyett drained her fourth triple of the game to tie it back up. Guard Morgan Browning then hit a three on the next possession for a 75-72 advantage. However, Tech tied the game once again and the teams traded baskets in the final minute to force the extra frame.

The Golden Suns scored the eight of the first 10 points of overtime for an 85-79 lead before the Lions closed the game on a 9-0 run over the final 2:03. Browning scored seven of her 19 points during the run, in which forward Sinetra Jones gave the Lions the 86-85 lead on a fastbreak layup off an assist from guard Telisha Brown.

UAFS trailed by 12 at the break, but shot 56.3 percent in the third and scored 26 points to get back in the game. The Lions shot 54.5 percent in the second half.

Trusty finished 8-for-10 from the floor and led the Lions with four assists. Boyett added 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc while both Jones and guard Zyniah Thomas chipped in with eight points each. Browning and forward McKenzie Piper each pulled down six rebounds.

The Lions' defense held ATU to just 23.5 percent from beyond the arc.

UAFS will next host the Hampton Inn Classic Saturday and Sunday at the Stubblefield Center, first taking on Texas A&M International Saturday at 5 p.m.
