JOPLIN, Mo. – Following a big road win Friday night, University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball kept up the momentum with a 25-21, 25-11, 25-13 sweep at Missouri Southern Saturday night.
Outside hitter Nyia Anderson paced the Lions with a double-double of 12 kills and 16 digs, as the Lions held MSSU to a -.008 attack percentage for the match.
UAFS hit just .057 in set one, then hit .345 in set two and .370 in set three to finish at .211. The Lions had pair of 4-0 runs in the opening set to propel them to the early advantage.
In addition to their strong hitting in sets two and three, UAFS paired it with a defense that held MSSU to a negative attack percentage in each set. UAFS scored seven of the final eight points in set two and then started set three up 7-1. UAFS then took advantage of four MSSU errors as part of an 8-0 run in set three to lead 17-5.
Right-side hitter Morgan Creer added six kills for the Lions while middle blocker Hannah Watkins tallied five. Watkins also had a team-high five blocks.
Defensively, outside hitter Caelyn Gunn added a team-high 17 digs while setter Trinity Funderburk recorded nine digs and 13 assists. Setter Scarlette Young dished out 12 assists.
UAFS had eight aces while not having a single receiving error and had a 9-3 advantage in blocks.
The Lions remain on the road next week visiting Missouri Western October 11 at 6 p.m.
