FORT SMITH, Ark. – With conference action underway, University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball will embark on its first MIAA road trip by visiting Central Missouri and Missouri Southern State this week.
The Lions will take on the Jennies at 6 p.m. Friday before an all-Lion matchup Saturday at 6 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS opened MIAA play with a four-set loss against Pittsburg State before bouncing back with a sweep of Newman.
ACES WILD: The Lions rank second in the MIAA with 1.82 per set. Setter Brelee Mauldin leads UAFS with 23 total aces.
SEEING DOUBLE: Outside hitter Nyia Anderson has posted a double-double in 10 of 13 matches this season.
AT THE NET: UAFS is second in the MIAA and 24th nationally with 2.47 blocks per set. Middle blocker Hannah Watkins in third in the MIAA with 1.24 blocks per set.
RECORD WATCH: Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn ranks ninth with 761 kills while Watkins is eighth with 220 total blocks. Watkins is sixth with 56 solo blocks.
SCOUTING UCM: The Jennies are the defending MIAA Tournament champions and were the preseason favorite to win the league as voted on by the league's head coaches. UCM is 5-6 on the year, having played three ranked opponents. Setter Kayla Baer is second in the MIAA with 11.35 assists per set while UCM allows the most blocks at 2.45 blocks per set.
SCOUTING MSSU: The Lions are 2-11 and 0-2 at home after losing both of their MIAA matchups last weekend. Libero Kyla Randall leads the MIAA with 6.12 digs per set despite MSSU allowing the most kills per set in the league at 13.22.
THE SERIES: UAFS is 0-2 against Central Missouri and 5-0 against Missouri Southern State.
