FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball scored a season-high 96 points as the Lions defeated Midwestern State, 96-84, Thursday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lions eclipsed 50 percent shooting for the first time this season, shooting 50.8 percent and also made a season-high 12 threes at a 46.2 percent clip. The 96 points are the most the Lions have scored since scoring 98 in a win over Oklahoma Christian in January 2019.
The trio of guards Baylee Fincher, Riley Hayes and Morgan Browning combined for 70 of the 96 points, led by Fincher's 29. Fincher was 7-of-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Additionally, she was 11-for-11 from the charity stripe and had a team-high four assists.
Hayes finished 5-for-12 from distance with 21 points while Browning was 7-for-9 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the line for 20 points. UAFS finished an astounding 24-for-25 at the line.
Trailing 20-17 after the first quarter, the Lions erupted for 27 points in the second, shooting 50.0 percent. UAFS led 44-37 at the break.
In the third, the Lions quickly built up a 13-point lead. However, the Mustangs went on an 18-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 57-52 lead.
But the Lions answered right back, using a 9-0 run to got back in front, 64-58. A four-point lead after the third grew to 10 halfway through the fourth, as the Lions comfortably kept the lead the rest of the way.
UAFS scored 36 of its points in the paint and tallied 38 bench points.
Guard Zyniah Thomas added nine points, six rebounds and four assists while forward Kayla Brundidge pulled down a team-high nine boards. Forward Allana Thompson contributed seven points and six rebounds.
The Lions will look to keep the offense rolling Saturday at 1 p.m. against Cameron in the Stubblefield Center.
