Brundidge nets Lions come-from-behind win over Javelinas

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Forward Kayla Brundidge converted a game-winning layup with 40 seconds left as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball rallied and then held off Texas A&M-Kingsville, 55-54, Thursday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

Following the game-winning basket, Brundidge was the primary defender on the final shot that bounced off the rim to secure the win for the Lions.

The win marked a 10-point comeback for the Lions, who trailed 32-22 at the break. The Javelinas made five triples in the first quarter as the Lions shot just 32.1 percent in the first half.

But that all changed in the third quarter. UAFS shot 50.0 percent in the frame and used an 8-0 to tie the game at 37. The Lions took a 42-39 lead on a three by guard Hannah Boyett before heading to the fourth tied at 42.

The Lions quickly raced out to a five-point advantage in the first minute of the fourth, only to see the Javelinas score the next six points for a 48-47 lead. The lead changed times in the final minutes, with UAFS leading 53-50 before TAMUK took a 54-53 lead with one minute left, setting up the Brundidge basket.

UAFS held the Javelinas to just two made threes in the final three quarters while shooting 46.2 percent in the second half.
