FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball was unable to close out the 2022-23 season with a win as the Lions fell to Oklahoma Christian, 74-63, in the season finale at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Eagles jumped on the Lions in the opening quarter, scoring 27 points on 52.4 percent shooting for a 27-17 advantage. UAFS had trailed 17-3 early but had once cut it to single digits.
UAFS picked up the defensive intensity in the second quarter, as it held OC to just two points for the first seven minutes of the frame. The Lions pulled within 29-24 during that stretch, but the Eagles closed the half on an 8-4 run.
The Lions were never able to break through in the second half and saw their three-game win streak come to an end.
Guard Aaliyah Prince paced the Lions with 16 points and four rebounds in her final collegiate game, while guard Hannah Boyett added 13 points. Also, in her final game, guard Rodrea Echols poured in 14 points off the bench in just 13 minutes.
The Eagles outrebounded the Lions, 43-30 and had 15-4 edge in second chance points.
UAFS concludes the 2022-23 season 10-18, 8-14 LSC.
