FORT SMITH, Ark. – One final road trip awaits University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball before its home opener next week, as the Lady Lions travel to Lubbock Christian and Eastern New Mexico to open Lone Star Conference action this weekend.
UAFS will play at Lubbock Christian at 6 p.m. Friday and visits Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. central time Saturday. Live coverage links for both matches can be found at uafslions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: The Lions went 1-2 at the LSC Crossover, dropping matches against UT Permian Basin and host Dallas Baptist before concluding the weekend with a win over St. Mary's.
ROAD TRIPPIN': UAFS is in the fourth and final leg of its road swing to begin the season. UAFS is one of four LSC schools that will have yet to play a home match after this weekend.
CAN YOU DIG IT?: Libero Lauren Weber is second in the LSC and 19th in NCAA I with 5.24 digs per set.
KEEP ATTACKING: UAFS is fifth in the LSC in attack percentage at .220 as Chyra Thompson (.323) and Hannah Holland (.283) both rank in the top 10.
SETTING IT UP: Friday's matchup between the Lions and Chaps will feature two of the top setters in the LSC. LCU's Kayton Genenbacher is second in the league at 10.23 assists per set while UAFS's Chloe Price is fourth at 10.02 per set.
RECORD WATCH: Chloe Price is currently 10th in assists 1ith 844. Hannah Holland is second in aces with 89, two shy of Morgan Banner's record of 91. Holland is also eighth in blocks with 184.
SCOUTING LCU: The Lady Chaps are 4-7 after going 0-3 in their pod at the LSC Crossover. Genenbacher spreads out the attack, as no player for LCU has topped 100 kills yet. Defensively, libero Kendall Mahaney is averaging 4.7 digs per set.
SCOUTING ENMU: The Greyhounds find themselves near the top of the LSC after nonconference play with a 9-3 mark after sweeping the LSC Crossover. ENMU has limited their opponents to a .118 attack percentage, tops in the league. Libero Getsemani is third in the LSC with 5.04 digs per set while opposite Mikaela Garvin averages 3.06 kills per set on a .284 attack percentage.
THE SERIES: UAFS leads the all-time series with Lubbock Christian, 12-3, and is 2-0 against Eastern New Mexico.
PRESEASON POLL: UAFS was picked eighth in this year's LSC Preseason Poll after finishing seventh in 2021.
