Lady Lions settle for split on final day of Reddie-Tiger Invitational

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball concluded its season-opening Reddie-Tiger Invitational with a split Saturday, falling to Quincy University before defeating Kentucky Wesleyan in the finale.

UAFS fell to Quincy, 16-25, 23-25, 15-25 in the morning match and completed its second sweep of the weekend over KWC, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.

Next up for the Lady Lions is a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska, for the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic September 2-3.

Quincy 3, UAFS 0 (16-25, 23-25, 15-25)

The Lions suffered their first loss of the season to the Hawks as they were held to their lowest offensive output of the weekend by hitting just .117.

UAFS held a 12-11 lead in the first set, but the Hawks went on a 7-0 run for an 18-12 lead then closed out the set with a pair of 3-0 runs.

Set two was a back-and-forth affair with the Lions having a 23-22 lead before the Hawks scored the final three points of the set for a 2-0 lead. The Hawks then put away the third set with runs of 5-0 and 7-1 to complete the sweep.

Outside hitter Reagan Macha was the lone Lion to reach double figure kills with 11. Macha added 13 digs while libero Lauren Weber totaled 17. Setter Chloe Price passed out 23 helpers.

UAFS 3, Kentucky Wesleyan 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19)

After their lowest attack percentage of the weekend against Quincy, the Lions had their best offensive output by hitting .328 against the Panthers. The Lions would hit better than .400 in sets two and three.

Middle blocker Chyra Thompson posted 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage while Macha hit .300 with a team-high 13 kills. Middle blockers Kaelyn McDonald and Hannah Holland each hit .368 with nine and eight kills, respectively.

A one-point game late in set one, the Lions used a 3-0 run to lead 23-19 and hold on for the set one win. UAFS made set two much easier by going on an 8-0 run early thanks to four Panther errors. KWC attempted to rally before the Lions put the set away with a 7-1 run.

KWC led 12-10 in the third set until the Lions embarked a 9-1 run with two kills by McDonald. Thompson then had kills for three of the final six points to complete the sweep.

Macha recorded her third double-double of the weekend by adding 16 digs to go with Weber's team-high 26 digs. Price went on to tally 38 assists and eight digs.
