Four score in double figures to push Lions past Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas – Guard Dachelle Terry hit a go-ahead three with two minutes left and made two game-sealing free throws in the final seconds to push University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball to a 67-62 win at St. Edward's Thursday.

UAFS led by three entering the fourth and grew the lead to five before the Hilltoppers used a 5-0 run to tie the game at 56. A back-and-forth final few minutes, St. Edward's held a 62-61 lead with 2:25 left.

On the ensuing possession, guard Nya Stewart found Terry in the left corner for a wide open three to put the Lions ahead. UAFS then got stops on the final four possession for SEU to come away with the win.

Stewart continued her impressive stretch of basketball, scoring a team-high 19 points of 4-of-5 shooting and 9-for-11 at the free throw line. She was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, as well. Guard Paige Elston scored 16 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 for the line. She added seven assists and two steals.

The Lions had a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Hilltoppers 23-10 to erase a four-point first quarter deficit. UAFS shot 52.5 percent from the floor in the first half and led 40-31 at the break.

Forward Mar'Shalia Lollie broke the program record for most offensive rebounds, pulling down three offensive boards. She finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Terry gave the Lions four players in double figures, recording 12 points.

For the game, the Lions shot 46.3 percent from the floor and held the Hilltoppers to 39.0 percent. SEU had a 34-22 advantage in points in the paint, but UAFS went 25-for-29 at the line, compared to just 12-for-17 for SEU.

UAFS once again got strong contributions from its bench with 20 points.

The Lions will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they visit St. Mary's Saturday at 2 p.m.
