Volleyball pauses conference play for matches against Drury, Arkansas Tech

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball will take a break from the grind of Lone Star Conference play with a pair of nonconference matches against Drury University and Arkansas Tech.

UAFS will host Drury Tuesday, October 4 at 6 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center and visit Arkansas Tech October 10 at 6 p.m. Players will be signing the 2022 schedule poster following Tuesday's match.

Tuesday's match will be broadcast on the LSC Digital Network as well as Fox Sports Radio FM 103.5. Live stat links for both matches as well as video for the match at Arkansas Tech can be found at uafslions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS suffered a pair of defeats at Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International.

SET 'EM UP: Middle blockers Hannah Holland (7th) and Chyra Thompson (10th) rank in the top 10 of the LSC in hitting percentage at .315 and .286, respectively.

CAN YOU DIG IT: Libero Lauren Weber totaled 27 digs in the last match against Texas A&M International and is third in the LSC at 4.84 digs per set.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE: UAFS has played Drury four times but not since the 2010 season. The Lions have only faced Arkansas Tech once, a neutral site match back in 2011 in which the Lions swept the Golden Suns.

RECORD WATCH: Hannah Holland moved into first all-time in aces against Western New Mexico and now has 93 career aces. Holland is seventh in career blocks with 212. Setter Chloe Price is eighth in assists with 1,034.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 2-2 all-time against Drury and 1-0 against Arkansas Tech.

SCOUTING DU: The Panthers are 7-11, 2-3 GLVC and have lost their previous five matches. Outside hitter Salma Lewis leads Drury with 197 kills while middle blocker Kayli Duncan is hitting .301. Setter Chloe Rear averages 8.17 assists per set with libero Juliana Squire averaging 4.49 digs per set.

SCOUTING ATU: The Golden Suns are 5-13, 3-4 GAC after winning a pair of matches last week. Reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week middle blocker Heather Thomas has a team-high 116 kills with setter Brianna Merkel leading a two-setter system. Libero Megan Solberg averages 4.15 digs per set in the back row.
