FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball wraps up the home portion of its schedule this week by hosting three matches at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center, capped by Senior Day Saturday.
Wednesday will see the Lions take on UT Tyler at 6 p.m. before hosting Angelo State at 6 p.m. Friday and UT Permian Basin Saturday at 1 p.m.
All three matches will be broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network and Fox Sports Radio FM 103.5. Live stats will be available on uafslions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS dropped three matches last week, one at home to Dallas Baptist and a pair of road matches at St. Edward's and St. Mary's.
FRESHMAN FOUR: All four freshman had career days in the contest against St. Mary's. Setter Kendall Schmitz posted 46 assists and 12 digs in her first career start, while defensive specialist Macie Grams tallied 14 digs. Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn netted 24 kills and 18 digs while hitting .347 while middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald had 14 kills on a .448 attack percentage with five blocks.
KEEP DIGGING: UAFS recorded 119 digs in the five-set match against St. Edward's, the seventh most in a match in the NCAA II era. Four of the top 10 matches for most digs in a match have come against the Hilltoppers.
WE MEET AGAIN: This will be the second meeting between the Lions and Falcons this season. UAFS will look to avenge its first-ever loss to the Falcons from the LSC Crossover.
SENIOR DAY: UAFS will honor three seniors Saturday against UTPB in middle blocker Hannah Holland, setter Chloe Price and outside hitter Abby Cagle.
RECORD WATCH: Hannah Holland ranks first in aces with 102 and sixth in blocks with 224. Chloe Price is eighth in assists with 1,144.
THE SERIES: UAFS is 2-2 against UT Tyler, 2-4 versus Angelo State and 17-1 against UT Permian Basin all-time.
SCOUTING UTT: The Patriots have swept their last three matches and are on a four-match win streak en route to a 15-7, 8-3 LSC record. Outside hitter Mikayla Ware has been the go-to option for UT Tyler, averaging 4.44 kills per set. Defensively, middle blocker Dakota Rogers-Hurtado averages 1.16 blocks per set and libero Savannah Guzman tallies 4.03 digs per set.
SCOUTING ASU: The Rambelles are 11-13, 7-5 LSC after dropping their last three matches. ASU uses a balanced attack with six players over 100 kills while libero Caleigh Enax leads the back row with 4.39 digs per set.
SCOUTING UTPB: A pair of losses last week as the Falcons at 11-12, 6-6 LSC with two weeks remaining. Outside hitter Aquincia Strambler has been a force all year for UTPB with 3.06 kills per set, despite the Falcons utilizing three setters. Libero Daylee Doggett is averaging 4.21 digs per set on the back row for the Falcons.
