Volleyball splits final day at Lady Buff Classic

CANYON, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball split its final day of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic Saturday, defeating Adams State, 3-1, before falling by the same score to host West Texas A&M in the finale.

For her efforts, setter Chloe Price was named to the All-Tournament team.

Next up for UAFS is the Valdosta State Fall Tournament September 10-11 in Valdosta, Georgia.

UAFS 3, Adams State 1 (23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 26-24)

The Lady Lions rallied from down six points in the third set and eight points in the fourth set as they came from behind to win three sets in a row after dropping the first set.

UAFS trailed 20-14 in set three before embarking on an 8-2 run, tying things up on a pair of service aces by Price.

The Grizzlies regained the lead and had set point at 24-23, but committed three consecutive errors to give UAFS a 2-1 lead.

Adams State raced out to a 12-4 lead in set four as they looked to even the match before the Lions trimmed the deficit to three. ASU then extended the lead back to six and led 22-17, but UAFS followed a similar path as set three.

Middle blocker Hannah Holland posted a pair of kills and Price tied it with a pair of aces. Once again, the Grizzlies had set point, but UAFS scored three straight yet again, including a block by Holland and a kill by outside hitter Paola Fragalle to put the match away.

Price posted 45 assists in the match, dishing 13 of them to outside hitter Reagan Macha and 12 to Fragalle. Holland added nine kills on a .412 attack percentage in the win. Price also tallied 11 digs for a double-double.

Defensively, libero Lexy Lewis had a team-high 12 digs while Holland had six blocks.

UAFS had 16 aces in the match, with seven coming from Price.

West Texas A&M 3, UAFS 1 (25-22, 7-25, 19-25, 23-25)

The Lions held an 18-14 lead in set four but were unable to hold on to force a fifth set. UAFS had a 6-0 run to take an 11-10 lead and then a 4-0 burst to take an 18-14 lead, but the Lady Buffs answered back with a 5-1 run.

Tied at 22, WTAMU tallied a pair of kills to force match point. UAFS was able to get one point back, but the Buffs were able to put the match away with a kill.

UAFS used a 7-0 run in set one capped by three aces by Holland to take a 20-14 lead, then held off a late WTAMU rally to take a 1-0 set lead. However, WTAMU took control of the match by winning the next two sets.

Fragalle led the Lions with 10 kills and added eight digs in the process. Macha added seven kills.

Macha led UAFS with 14 digs, while both Lewis and defensive specialist Jazzlyn Wells recorded 11 digs.

Holland added six kills, four blocks and four aces. Price dished out 27 helpers.
