Ranked foe awaits UAFS Volleyball

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball is looking to build off its first conference win of the season, as it visits Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 19 UT Tyler Friday and Saturday.

First serve for Friday's match is 6 p.m. with Saturday slated for a 1 p.m. start.

Both matches will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network and live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS won its first conference match of the year, sweeping Texas Woman's. UAFS split the weekend after dropping Friday's match to DBU, 3-1.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST: UAFS had its highest hitting percentage of the season win the win over TWU, hitting .292 for the match. It hit .310 in set one and .353 in set two. Middle blocker Chyra Thompson led the way with 12 kills ona .421 attack percentage.

AT THE NET: UAFS continues to boast one of the top blocking units in the country, ranking second in the LSC and 21st nationally at 2.39 blocks per set. Chyra Thompson and Hannah Holland are second and third in the league at 1.09 and 1.00, respectively.

SERVE 'EM UP: UAFS leads the LSC with 1.91 service aces per set.

MAGIC NUMBER: UAFS is 5-1 when holding its opponent to a hitting percentage below .150. It is just 1-4 when allowing its opponent to hit above .200.

RECORD WATCH: Libero Lexy Lewis currently sits 9th on the all-time UAFS digs list with 826 career digs. She is two digs behind Olivia Navato for 8th.

300: Saturday's win over Texas Woman's was the 300th win as a NCAA II member for UAFS.

SCOUTING TAMUC: The Lions have gotten off to just a 2-6, 1-3 LSC start, allowing a league worst .269 opponent attack percentage. Setter Celeste Vela is second in the LSC with 9.86 assists per set.

SCOUTING UTT: The Patriots are unbeaten at 8-0, 4-0 LSC and ranked No. 19 in the AVCA Top 25. They lead the league in kills and assists and have three hitters averaging more than three kill per set, led by right-side hitter Christina Escamilla's .470 attack percentage. Defensively, two players average more than four digs per set.

THE SERIES: UAFS leads the all-time series with Texas A&M-Commerce, 5-1. The Lady Lions also own a 2-1 series advantage over UT Tyler in its short NCAA II tenure.
