OKLAHOMA CITY – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith used a strong defensive effort to win its sixth straight match and complete its fourth consecutive sweep with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 win at Oklahoma Christian Tuesday night.
Already leading the Lone Star Conference in opponent's attack percentage, the Lady Lions (6-1, 6-1 LSC) were even better Tuesday, holding the Eagles (3-9, 2-7 LSC) to a .022 mark, the lowest of the season.
Sophomore libero Lexy Lewis led the defensive effort with a match-high 22 digs, leading three Lady Lions in double figures.
UAFS started set one up 5-0, and never trailed in a set they held Oklahoma Christian to a -.022 attack percentage. In set two, leading 21-20, UAFS used a 4-0 run to close the set for a 2-0 advantage.
Set three started just like set one, with UAFS jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead. UAFS would extend the lead to 12-3 and 21-11 before closing out the match.
The Lady Lions offense only hit .144 on the evening, but used a balanced attack, with five players registering five or more kills. Junior right-side hitter Faith Marabella led the attack with eight kills while hitting .286.
Sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Crownover added 16 digs while dishing out 27 assists.
UAFS will go for the season sweep of Oklahoma Christian Wednesday at 6 p.m.
